The fall of 2006 was our last hunting season in South Dakota, having sold our SD farm and moved to Wyoming, a long-planned, long-awaited change in life. Now after a few months and 38 trips back and forth hauling belongings, we're here.br>
Years of visiting and traveling WY led to a long-term desire to move here. We chose the high country of northwest WY near Yellowstone Park and the little town of Dubois to settle in. Both Charlotte and I had spent a lot of time over the hill in Jackson Hole and while we enjoy it, Dubois has more to offer for those still hunting, shooting, or enjoying outdoor recreation. This area has the greatest collection of big game hunting anywhere in North America with Mule Deer, Elk, Whitetail, Moose, Big Horn Sheep, not to mention the great mountain lion and black bear hunting, entertainment by the grizzlies and now wolves. No other place has this diversity.
Just east of Dubois has a native pheasant population, starting around Crow Heart and continuing through the hay and farm country along the Wind/Big Horn River. We'll focus on that area to start the Wyoming version of Andersen Farms Pheasnt Hunting next year.
Dubois also has the premium snowmobiling of the West and is in the 'Golden Triangle' of fly fishing. Lakes, mountains, wildlife, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing; Dubois has it all. We moved everything from SD with us and will have the new 'Barn at Andersen Farms' setup and open by summer of 2007. Here we'll have room to bring in the almost 100 other big game mounts that we have not had a place to display. Our new trophy room will house all the collectables and mounts we previously had and all the ones we've waited on.
Friends and clients will recognize all the furnishings from SD when they see the trophy room here in Dubois. We moved it all in 38 trips back and forth.
Our upcoming trip to Tanzania in August, 2007 should provide many additional African mounts as both of us have 21 day license this time. We plan on taking many animals that I had passed up in the past, now having more room to display them. I"m looking forward to another lion, leopard, and several buffalo if it's possible. We'll have six buffalo on license this year, between us!
The Spring and Summer of 2007 will be spent building and getting the Longhorn RV and Motel up and going. www.longhornrvandmotel.com is the website. Once complete and open we'll concentrate on the new trophy room, the Lions Den, our offices, and hopefully our house.
We will not be doing pheasant hunts the fall of 2007. It will be 2008 before we can find and prepare the right property here in WY for pheasants. This fall will be spent doing some pheasant hutning ourselves, and hosting clients at a new lodge in SW South Dakota. We'll pretty much be taking the fall off and hunting with clients this year. Previous clients should contact us about the spot we've chosen as a 'fill-in' until we're up and running again. We'll gladly accompany you this fall, if you desire.
